How to Recommend a Beer

So, you’re a beer lover. You drink lagers, IPAs, stouts, and more with precision and appreciation. But not everybody loves beer as much as you do. Shocking, we know. What do you do when a beer novice asks you for a beer recommendation? It’s a difficult query, so we made you a guide.
1. Gauge their experience.
What beers have they had before? Oftentimes the most a beer novice will remember is light/dark and bitter/smooth. Stick to simple descriptions like these to get an idea of what they know they like, and base your recommendation on that.
2. Cater to what they like/need.
If they’re a fan of fruity beverages, consider a beer that reflects that, like Summit’s Hop Silo Double IPA. Also, be sure to listen to restrictions such as gluten intolerance. While gluten free beer is still emerging, you can find some great options like Omission, which offers a Lager, IPA, and Pale Ale.
3. Offer them a little education.
Check out resources like this to give them a basic introduction to beer vocabularyflavor profiles, and ingredients. Also, teach them the appropriate technique to taste the beer.
4. Check out these infographics for some basic introductions. This way, your friend can see the differences side-by-side.
