Kick off this year’s Oktoberfest with Widmer Brother’s Okto Festival Ale, available August-October. This festival, altbier-style ale inspired by Bavarian Oktoberfest uses distinctive malt flavors – Pale, Carapils, Caramelmunich II, Crystal 77L – combined with a mild floral character and clean finish. This light-bodied, crisp ale makes for the perfect beer, as the Summer draws to a close and the leaves begin to change colors.

Originally a one-time, limited edition beer at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station, Stone’s English Milk Stout recently hit the shelves this August. This smooth, easy-drinking stout boasts a powerful coffee aroma, with a bittersweet and creamy aftertaste. Perfect for the colder weather and longer nights.

Summit – Oktoberfest

If you’re looking for a local Märzen/Oktoberfest style brew available this Fall, Summit Brewing Co.’s Oktoberfest hails directly from good ol’ St. Paul, MN. This two-time Grand Champion at the U.S. Beer Tasting Championships blends dominant and rich, toffee malt flavors with a more subtle hop finish. Summit describes this wonderful, Oktoberfest brew as being “as crisp as the autumn air.”
Goose Island – Rambler IPA
Goose Island’s Rambler IPA, the last beer in its limited-release Elk Mountain series, came out this August. This seasonal single-hop beer packs a powerful herbal and bitter citrus aroma, giving it the perfect hop profile for a late summer beer.
Lift Bridge – Harvester
Lift Bridge Brewing Co.’s Harvestör Fresh Hop Ale uses organic, locally grown hops from Hippity Hops Farms in Forest Lake, MN. This well-balanced beer combines a unique, hoppy profile with subtle aromatic and caramel malt flavors. Celebrate the harvest with this local and refreshing seasonal IPA.
Alaskan – Imperial Pumpkin Porter
You haven’t had a Fall beer until you’ve tried Alaskan Brewing Co.’s Imperial Pumpkin Porter. After all, what’s a seasonal brew without a little pumpkin? Well, Alaskan Brewing Co. answers that questions for us in their Imperial Pumpkin Porter style description:
“A native plant of North America, pumpkins were first used in beer in colonial America as a substitute for hard-to-find malt, and none other than the father of our country George Washington had a highly touted recipe. This imperial porter pumpkin beer combines the robust, full-bodied style of a porter with a, frankly, crazy amount of pumpkin.”
Moral of the story? Pumpkin Beer = America.
